The Worshipful Company of Furnture Makers introduced the Guild Mark nearly 50 years ago to encourage the design and making of the very finest quality furniture. This would bring prestige and publicity to their recipients and would build a record of the very best work of Bristish Designers and Makers.
A Jury from The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers meet serveral times a year to assay pieces submitted and the pieces must meet excellence in four criteria: design, materials, craftmanship and function. If an item meets the Jury's exacting standard a numbered enamelled disc, the 'Guild Mark', is presented to the maker to fix to the piece.
